Our Story
Roots of Wanderlust: The Ethnology Story
The story of Ethnology began long before it had a name. My granduncle was an ethnomusicologist, a collector of sounds and souls, who traveled to the furthest corners of the world in search of the world’s hidden musical gems. Each journey brought back not just music, but artifacts — his home filled with carved woods and relics from across the globe. These were more than just objects; they were pieces of the cultures he had come to love, symbols of friendships forged across borders.
As a child, I wandered my grandfather's house, entranced by these artifacts. They awakened in me a love for exploration, a passion to understand the world through the cultures and traditions that define it. My granduncle, a gifted linguist, could converse with anyone, forming bonds wherever he went. He was my mother’s inspiration, too. She named me after him, hoping I would grow up to be curious about the world, respect all cultures, and see life through diverse lenses. This name and the spirit behind it are reflected in our brand’s symbol today.
My own journeys taught me that true beauty lies in the uniqueness of each place and culture. This realization became the foundation of Ethnology. We aim to celebrate the beauty, honoring each culture's heritage and natural gifts. Our journey begins in Kenya, and we dream of exploring the whole world. One step, one culture, one story at a time — we’ll capture the essence of each place in every product we craft together with local farmers and artisans.
